Lee Roy Selmon blends the merits of football scholarship in his family and the benefits of community service. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious Selmon and Jessie. The family lived on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. In football, he was alongside three brothers for Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. The team also took home two national championships. In 1975, he was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth time of service consisted of ten hours a week in volunteer work during the college. After graduating Lee Roy moved to Tampa and spent the next 9 years with the Buccaneers. There were three times he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, he worked as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's top 10 young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the 1975 team. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame through The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
