Fawn Mckay

Fawn McCay Brodie, born in Ogden Utah September 15, 1915. She was a member of the Mormon Church's original family Fawn McKay was able to direct her innovative literary talents and remarkable research skills to creating the brilliant psycho-historical biography of Joseph Smith, published in 1945, entitled The Only Man knows My History. The title was inspired by a funeral speech delivered in 1844 by Church of Latter-Day Saints founder, Joseph Smith. The sermon declared: "You do not know the person I am, and have never met my soul." No one knows my story. I'm not able to tell my story. Fawn, 29 years old was a writer. Fawn has taken over the role of writer since the day he began. Some have attacked him, others have praised him, some have even experimented with diagnostics. It's not that documents are lacking the issue is that they are fiercely contradictory. It is a matter of separating first-hand testimony from third hand plagiarism and fitting Mormon-and non-Mormon-narratives into a mosaic of credible historical facts. It's both thrilling, as well as instructive. Such was the task to which Fawn Brodie devoted herself professionally. The results of her study as well as her writing earned her world-wide fame: Thaddeus Stevens. Scourge of the south (1959) The Devil Drives. The Story of Sir Richard Burton (1967) Thomas Jefferson. An intimate History (1974) as well as posthumously Richard Nixon.
