Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought an interest to this genre but also to Latin music in general. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 songs mainly in Spanish reached into the Top 100. This number rose to 41 in 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in 2017. After that, some of the most pop stars began to collaborate with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna was a part of Maluma to create Medellin. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton performers were lamenting the genre's direction toward the mainstream but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, sought to keep reggaeton evolving. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms and others into his music.
